Mount Sanitas is the closest summit to downtown Boulder and one of the most-used trails in the state. The classic loop combines the steep, rocky Sanitas Trail (1.3 miles up to the summit), the East Ridge descent, and the Sanitas Valley Trail return — totaling 3.4 miles with 1,343 feet of elevation gain. The summit at 6,863 feet offers a 360-degree view of the Flatirons, the Indian Peaks Wilderness, and the city of Boulder. Heavily traveled at sunrise and after work, the trail is rarely solitary but remains a Boulder rite of passage.
