Pikes Peak is one of Colorado's most accessible 14,000-foot peaks, with a paved toll road to the summit (Pikes Peak Highway) and the historic Pikes Peak Cog Railway that restarted service in 2021 after a major renovation. The summit has an indoor visitor center with food, restrooms, and panoramic views. For hikers and runners, the Barr Trail from Manitou Springs is a 13-mile route gaining 7,800 feet. The Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon are annual races on the same route. Pikes Peak inspired Katharine Lee Bates to write 'America the Beautiful' in 1893 and has been a destination for travelers since the 19th century.
