Castle Peak (14,279 ft) and Conundrum Peak (14,060 ft) are located in the Elk Mountains south of Aspen. Castle Peak is the high point of the Elk Mountains and offers a moderate Class 2/3 route from the Castle Creek side. The connected Conundrum Peak is often added to the same outing. The area is also the trailhead for the popular Conundrum Hot Springs trail, a 17-mile round trip hike ending at natural hot springs in the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness. The peaks are known for their relative isolation compared to Front Range fourteeners and for the wildflower displays in the Castle Creek valley.
